In June 1998, Kristen and I piled the final truckload of belongings into her grandma's pick-up and said "Good bye" to our house and then our home and headed off to China.

Hong Kong turned out to be less than a move and more of a long trip but on the way back to New York we stopped to see friends in Los Angeles and after months abroad found suprising comfort in the land of palm trees and swimming pools:

After some deliberation Back East, we loaded up the Pontiac and drove west.

This is a classic event in our family lore: We stopped in Boulder, CO to visit Tom & Sarah and their pumkin innard-loving squirrel friend. Check out the little critter's mouthful!

Shots of me inexplicably in black making our way across the USA.
We arrived in Los Angeles just days before Halloween. We were shockingly quick at starting the job hunt and finding a place to live, another car, and Halloween costumes:

On the night of Halloween, 1998, we attended a party with our buddy Adam (the grocery bag) and were introduced to a few folks that would become and remain our dear friends, get me started on an actual career path, and make up the loudest part of our wedding reception. We even commerated the event in 2003 with a party at Adam's.
Here we are still even ANOTHER 5 years later living a life I could not have imagined when I exited off of the freeway back in October '98. It usually seems that we have no better idea what the future holds for us than we did back then, but at least hindsight allows us to see we've had a hell of a lot of fun finding out.
