Two days before we left for Ithaca we booked a trip to La Paz, Mexico.
Thank goodness.
We had never been anywhere in Mexico but the border towns, and those don't really count. We read about La Paz in a Lonely Planet guidebook and then did a little research on the web. It sounded perfect: A city, but safe and hassle free. Beautiful. A travel destination, but not TOO touristy. It has a cool history as part of Mexico and the Californias. The flights were short and we found a really fun hotel.
The picture above is kind of a lie. This is far from the tropical part of Mexico. La Paz is on the Baja Pennisula in the state of "Baja Sur." It's right on the Sea of Cortez (the water between Mexico on the peninsula) and is pretty darn deserty. But I like this vintage ad, anyway.
